Two cell types (egg + sperm) development of all other cell types. Segmentation in embryo: cells send signals and respond to signals cell knows where it is in embryo, knows what to develop into. Signaling molecule signal transduction effector protein modify cellular metabolism/function/movement, or enter nucleus to modify gene expression/development. Dna not in nucleus, but less organized nucleoid. Inner (plasma) membrane + cell wall + periplasmic space + outer membrane.
