We all have human desires that are repressed and stored in the unconscious. Unconscious is created in the oedipal moment. Infant baby has a dual relationship with its mother and then the father comes into the equation making a kind of triangle. Love between child and mother is being threatened by father. The father however has something the mother doesn"t, a penis. If the son keeps identifying the mother, he fears castration so he identi es with the father and loves other women who mirror the mother. She reluctantly connects with castration of mother, but she wants phallus. Enter and behave within the symbolic order . As the child learns to communicate he learns to suppress desires because incest is wrong and learns how to behave in society. Lacan goes father than freud and talks about the mirror phase. 6-18 months old (time when baby sees itself in the mirror)
