You need to have full control of your independent variable (dark chocolate) Random allocation of participants to groups or conditions: don"t expect a different baseline with the people when they are random. Two designs: between participant design: to eliminate a drastic mean then you need to get more people, within participant design comparing people with themselves. Randomize conditions: give half of the participants the first test with coffee and the other half the second test without coffee. Baseline measure give a standardized test first, so you can measure the before and after. Psychological research: psychological research and its goals, empirical falsifiability, the research process. Observation and observational methods: observation behavior, how to conduct an observational study. Research designs: correlational (observational) design, experiment design, correlation is not causation. Are people who grow up in warm climates psychologically different from those in cold climates: too vague, want to compare the causal link; cause and effect is very hard to establish.
