After 1880, the design of posters changes and they become much more numerous. Poster from 1852 is very text heavy and simply gives information to the public. Large type was used because they were meant to be viewed from far away. Metal type could only be created to be about an inch big (and still be at) We see so many different fonts on these posters because a printer wouldn"t have had that many of the same font that were really big. 1910 has a colored lithographic poster (font is hand drawn) Ukiyo-e is image heavy (little to no text), things are centered, use of color, black outlines, The west starts to use the japanese style. Jules ch ret is considered a master of poster design. Most of his posters deal with the pleasures of nightlife. When they"re taken down, people want to collect and keep them. Toulouse-lautrec text starts to evaporate from poster design.
