Document Summary
Scientific study of social structure - interaction of people in social relationships. Sociologist"s never make assumptions, are wrong, ask questions, make every day strange, embrace life"s complexities. Sociologists make a lot of conclusions based off of opinions, can be wrong sometimes. Women are often viewed as victims in media (news). Older white males are the highest powers in. They don"t want to lose that power so all other social groups are below them in society. Society is designed to keep certain people on top and everyone else below them. Subjective information: is based on personal opinions, points of view, emotions and judgment. It is considered ill-suited for scenarios like news reporting or decision making in business or politics. Sociology assumes group, rather than individual, perspective. Sociologists look for patterns in social relationships. Perspective: is a particular point of view. Sociology has its own perspective - the sociological perspective (a view that looks at behavior of groups not individuals).
