Maps- scaled representation of an agreed upon set of errors. Show how things change in some direction. Rainfall, health care costs, voting patterns, tree species. Contour lines- how thick the lines are is how elevated the ground is fro a reference point, same thickness of line same elevation. How maps are made: datum- find median of geographic location, a projection- how to represent a curved surface in 2-d, means of orientation- how to represent north south east and west, how big of a scale. Hydrogeologists and geochemists- makes maps showing pollution from water well samples.
