10+ million victims of intimate partner violence (ipv) annually. Aggression & violence: about75% female, 25% male, estimates, as only 20-25% male. Much higher numbers of actual incidents, as most victims are involved in multiple incidents annually. 3 million injuries and 2000 deaths: 47% of male ipv homicide victims identify as lgbtq. It is not routine for there to be a single instance of violence in a relationship. Types of violence: verbal abuse contempt; psychological abuse, neglect stonewalling; persistent avoidance. Silent treatment, creating anxiety and discomfort, causing someone to feel like they are not worth their partner"s time, care, or love. The intent is to do harm: physical abuse/violence mild to moderate physical abuse; threats; low to moderate frequency. This includes things like the occasional push, restraining someone, throwing things, and issuing threats: battering significant attempt to injure; moderate to high frequency. This is when someone is intentional in wanting to do harm.
