Changing behavior is a challenging and complex process based on. A person"s readiness for change is the focus of the transtheoretical model of behavioral change. Cognitive processes are applied in earlier stages of change and the behavioral processes are applied in later stages of change. Precontemplation: the individual is not seriously thinking about changing a health behavior in the next 6 months or denies the need to change. Intervention strategies: exercise promotion media campaign, education about exercise benefits, health risk appraisal and fitness testing. Contemplation: individual is seriously thinking about changing an unhealthy behavior within the next 6 months. Intervention strategies: market benefit of exercises, education on starting an exercise program, identify positive role models and social support. Preparation: transitional stage in which individual plans to take action within the next month. Intervention strategies: full fledge fitness evaluation, goal setting, behavioral contracts, and exercise prescription. Action: first 6 months after modification of unhealthy behavior.
