• Chapter 9 of Osborn, Osborn, and Osborn: Structuring Your Speech:
➢ Important news gets lost when it’s poorly organized.
➢ A well-organized presentation makes it easier for listeners to learn &
remember your message.
o Don’t go off tangents
o Don’t jump from one idea to another
o Don’t ramble
o Don’t be generally disorganized.
➢ Good Form is developed by:
o Keeping presentation simple.
o Balancing parts of speech.
o Arranging main points so they develop in a meaningful pattern.

▪ Balance
▪ Order
➢ Simplicity:
o Should limit # of main ideas.
o Keep wording direct.
o Keep it to the point to achieve simplicity in speeches.
➢ Number of Main Points:
o Fewer main points in a speech the better b/c each point must be
developed w/ supporting material.
o It takes time to present info, examples, narratives & testimony effectively.
o Short speeches should include no more than 4 main points.
