Areas to know: know roughly what the group roles are (understand terms like gatekeeper, Alonso 2: dialectical tensions (the 3 common dialectical tensions discussed in class, different kinds of power, different kinds of organisational communication structures, different kinds of problem-solving formats. Problem-solving formats: the breakout groups, the problem consensus, the focus group, the parliamentary procedure, the panel discussion, virtual groups. Alonso 3: when you have a large group and you break into subgroups of the larger body and you"re given a task to work on as a subgroup and then you report back to the larger group. The problem consensus: when group members list their ideas on notecards anonymously and then a group leader displays all the notecards for consideration, so ideas may be treated equally.
