Patho: acute inflammatory reaction, contagious, life threatening, triggered by direct exposure. Management & pharmacotherapy: dx, pmh, pe, allergy testing, non-drug treatment. Id & eliminate cause: wet compresses, drug treatment. Local anesthetics: pruritis pain relief, benzocaine, lidocaine, pramoxine, obtain all hx, gcs (glucocorticoids, po ~ refer to nurs403 mod 3, can be applied topically, antihistamines, refer to nurs403 mod 7. Topical gcs: many uses, vehicles, cream, gel, ointment, skin penetration, drying or emollient actions, relative potency. Topical gcs cont: extent of systemic absorption, depends on duration of use, surface area covered, higher absorption, axilla, face, eyelids, neck, perineum, genitalia, application of occlusive dressings.
