Persistent depressive disorders: depressed mood that occurs for most days for at least 2 years, 1 year for children/adolescents, individuals are more likely to demonstrate comorbidity w/ other mental disorders, anxiety, substance use disorders. Bipolar disorder: characterized by mood swings, activity changes from overly high & energetic to sad & fatigued, & back again. Includes periods of near-normal mood & energy in between: diagnosed where experiences w/ depression are followed by a more normal period, then a period of mania/euphoria in which the person feels: Involved excessively in activities that have a high potential for negative consequences, such as: Cyclothymic disorder: individuals demonstrate numerous fluctuating periods of hypomanic & depressive symptoms, persistently elevated, expansive mood. Irritable mood: behaviors need to have been present for at least half the time during a 2- year period, ~ 1 year for children & adolescents, individual has not been without the symptoms for more than 2 months.
