Document Summary

Social justice: (cid:862)fairness and (cid:862)equality(cid:863) for all people and respect for their basic human rights. Just because you are a respectful person, doesn"t mean you will get respect back. People value social justice: how many people actually contemplate it, actions may not always agree with our values. Studying social justice focuses on the gap between the ideals and the practices of social justice. Recognize that society is divided and unequal along social groups. Groups that are valued more highly have greater access to the resources of a society. Social injustice creates unequal access to resources of society. Society is structured: race class, gender, sexuality, ability. Many social groups are valued within society, but they are not all equal. Gaps within society (due to these different group classifications) Society has been labeled, these social groups have been created, and have experienced different kinds of inequities. Recognizes that inequality as embedded in society, and actively strives to change this.
