Identification of risk factors is a key aspect of epidemiology and biobehavioral health. Risk factors can be modifiable/controllable or non-modifiable/non-controllable. In many studies, these risk factors are not the focus and must be controlled for. If everyone were of equal age, we wouldn"t see a correlation between cardiovascular disease and baldness. Main risk factor for major diseases like cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, Age wasn"t always the main risk factor for diseases because people didn"t live as long. About of all deaths worldwide are age-related. This proportion is much higher in industrialized nations (around 90%) Mechanisms of aging are not well understood. Some aspects of aging may be programmed bodies are destined to fail; biological clock. We are designed to only last a certain amount of time. End of chromosome is left off and after a while the telomere is very small which can lead to abnormalities and disease. Some aspects may be due to accumulated damaged.
