HD FS 229 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Tee-Ball, Sports Medicine, Apache Hadoop
Document Summary
Children choose environments that reflect their genes: talents, enjoyments, etc. Child plays tee-ball, she"s very good at it (in part due to genes) Chooses to play softball in middle school. Chooses to play softball in high school. Operates from birth into adulthood (full lifespan) Child"s genes evoke certain environmental responses: those responses further enhance/encourage child"s genetic potential, creates a cycle where genetics will be fully expressed. Ex: easy tempered babies having a genetic predisposition which evokes/leads to higher quality caregiving. Then their nurturing parenting encourages baby to be even easier. Different beginnings to same end = equifinality. Same beginnings to different end = multifunctionality. Adaptation evolved to have certain skills present at birth. Reflexes: innate, automatic responses to particular forms of stimulation, examples: Moro reflex baby perceives he/she is falling so he/she reaches arms and legs out to grasp onto something. Palmar grasp place something in an infant"s palm and they automatically grasp it.
