Personally i was drawn to this career the second i heard about it for one reason. I can personally relate to this career because i grew up never hearing my father speak, ever. He was too stubborn to learn sign language also but he did learn to make many annoying clicking sounds to get your attention. My father had lung cancer before i was born and lost the ability to speak when the cancer spread to his larynx and he had to have his voice box removed. I want to be a speech pathologist because i want to help people who have problems speaking or swallowing in order to give them a better quality of life.
