Blank slate theory human beings are born as a blank slate, and everything we encounter leaves a mark on us; we inherit reality and that reality assimilates w/ all the marks we get. Terministic screens the language [the way someone explains it] is a reflection of reality, selection, and deflection of the idea. [ex. cancer: reflection (having cancer), selection (fighting it), deflection (idea that some people can"t fight it)] Figure/ground there are certain things we pull out to be more important than the others [ex. old woman/young woman picture] Patterning group things together by the virtue of their sameness or difference. First order reality this is a stop light .
