24 views2 pages

Document Summary

Post-structuralist theory: theories of the way things work. Influenced by one another, but not the same. Deconstruction: taking things apart in many ways. How we figure out what is true or not. Floating away from the signifier or signified. Reading: to find unity and meaning to stabilize a whole. Reading holds everything in place (unification) to know the world. Deconstructionists: language is not neat or systematic. Deconstruction is in the language and text itself. Notice how meaning unravels itself if you ask questions, you have problems with stabilizing something. Notice how the text is working with language. Looking at text points out symantic gaps/structures. Ask questions of why we think in structures. Look at the perceptions that structure reality. Attempt to get outside system of literature. Double reading: second time, look at question. Look at common sense reality and why its like that. As readers, we make meaning in differences.
