Behaviors, rather than age or gender, are the contributing factor to becoming infected with hiv. Inflammation and breaks in the skin or mucosa result in the increased probability that an hiv exposure will lead to infection. Hiv-1 is transmitted in body fluids (blood, seminal fluid, vaginal secretions, amniotic fluid, and breast milk) that contain free virons and infected cd4+ t cells. Most perinatal infections are though to occur after exposure during delivery. Gerontologic considerations: approximately one quarter of people living with hiv are older than 50 years, many risk factors: Age related changes may increase susceptibility of infection.
