And to link these systems to standard measures of personality. Reinforcement sensitivity theory (rst): there are 3 hypothetical brain-behavior systems. Grey said everything in the brain is interconnected. Fight-flight-freeze system (fffs): associated w the emotion of fear and is responsible for orchestrating our reactions to aversive stimuli. Confront/fight stimulus, avoid/escape it, or remain frozen. Behavioral approach system (bas): organizes reactions to stimuli that are enticing, pleasurable, and rewarding. Makes a person more sensitive to reward. Related personality factors are optimism, impulsiveness, and emotion of anticipatory pleasure. 2 parts extraversion to 1 part neuroticism. Behavioral inhibition system (bis): hypothesized to resolve conflict. Can be conflict between two good things or two distasteful things. When this is activated, people become more sensitive to punishment and more cautious. 2 parts neuroticism to 1 part extraversion.
