PSY-33 Lecture Notes - Lecture 20: Grey Matter, Extraversion And Introversion, Disinhibition
Document Summary
Brain structure differences in the cortex and the amygdala. Introverts and extroverts show diff in size of their cortexes. Intros appeared to have more gray mater in right hemisphere areas than extras. People high in neurot had less gray matter in left hemisphere areas compared to ppl low in neuro. Extras had higher concentration of gray matter in left amygdala compared to intros. Ppl high in neuro had lower concentration of gray matter in right amygdala than ppl low in neuro. Brain activity differences in the cortex, left-right asymmetry, and the amygdala. Extraversion and neuroticism correlated w activity in the temporal and frontal parts of the cortex, areas that control consciousness (frontal) and emotions (temporal and frontal) Extraversion correlated w activity for pos emotions, neuro correlated w activity for neg emotions. Right frontal and prefrontal cortexes are more active than the left during neg emotions, and the left portion are more active than the right during pos emotions.
