During the break, read the next two readings together. Secession occurs if there are some kinds of injustices. Instead, the majority of the group decides they want to secede. There are two dichotomies within primary rights theories: The cause of secession has to do more with the involuntary choices of a group (i. e. their characteristics) Grounded in the conception of the well-being of certain populations. The voluntary choices of people cause them to secede. Any group of members whose choice is to secede from society. The determining factor is the will of the parties involved. For buchannan, secession is justified in only a small range of circumstances. If there is no injustice, he thinks there is no legitimate reason for secession. There is a difference within the kinds of reasoning that would support an associative group rights theories and that of an ascriptive group rights theories. Beran and simmons are likely to hold the associative view.
