Document Summary
3/7/17: female reproductive system, functions, egg production, receives penis and sperm, nourishes embryo, lactates, anatomy. Oviducts (fallopian tubes)- where secondary oocyte moved by cilia. Follicles: in ovary where egg will mature and release. Other 3 n are lost as polar bodies. Egg production only one final egg: prior to puberty. Creation of the egg in the embryo (and only in embryo) Primordial germ cells (2n) go through mitosis and form oogonium (2n) In oogonium the primary oocyte (2n) begins meiosis. Each primary oocyte is house within a follicle. Many follicles are in each ovary: during and after puberty. Zona pellucida forms between primary oocyte and follicle cells (glycoproteins) Starting at puberty: each month 6-12 follicles mature-only. A polar body (n) and a secondary oocyte (n) It is coated in the zona pellucida and follicle cells. Sex all year, fertile short period each month. Secondary oocyte enters into meiosis 2- arrests in metaphase 2.
