Document Summary
Nowadays people are very fixated on getting likes in regards to social media. Companies have geared their efforts into getting likes and turning that popularity into money. Likes, retweets, favorites, follows, etc. , are considered the social currency of today (the more you have the better you feel about yourself) People want that gratification and self verification. Kids feel that social media is a form of self-empowerment and a medium where they can express themselves and make themselves heard. They feel free to say what they feel regardless of what others may say (or at least they feel safer saying it online than in person) On the internet people are more accepting because people who may not show their interests and likes in real life can connect with people with the same interests online and feel safe and accepted. Social media and the internet has connected consumers and companies significantly.
