Image: the way you want others to see you. Image management: the behavior control and adjustment in order to project a preferred public image. Collaborative: we rely on others to help create and reinforce our identity. All the world"s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. We change how we act and how we present ourselves based on the different. Facework: behaviors used to present/maintain a desired public image (i. e. image management) We try to respond in ways that save face . Making excuses to blame things out of your control. Often, we are only aware of our face needs when they are threatened or come under attack. Audience: who we tailor our performance to. Each stage has its own norms and rules. Frontstage example: prof. faw is standing in front of the classroom and lecturing, the spotlight is on her and everyone is listening.
