Employees are the ones knowledgeable of the work process, and most of that knowledge is embedded in them. Therefore, many organizations are considering their talents as an investment towards achieving a competitive advantage and not merely a cost. To ensure that employees are capable, engaged and motivated to transfer their knowledge, we need to make sure that they are qualified and willing to contribute. Simply said, knowledge-intensive organizations such as google and facebook mostly attain their competitive advantage because of their human asset. That is why human resource management is important and that is why hrm is expected to contribute at the strategic level of the firm. The following framework represents the flow of themes addressed in this course. The course will start displaying the major hr challenges; investigating the environmental influences (external factors), organizational demands (internal factors) and the regulatory issues that influence the hr practices.
