First movement of a symphony, string quartet, or piano sonata came from the allemande. Baroque binary dance and sonata share the same harmonic scheme. Section a moves from tonic to dominant. Section b moves from dominant to tonic. Sonata"s dimensions and scope are more enhanced. Section a represents a single musical idea which is then explored in section b in binary dance, the sonata explores 2. Exploring the 2 ideas in section a is called exposition.
