Document Summary
Characterize what a just basic structure for society would look like. Do that by looking at what kind of basic structure people would agree to, under appropriate conditions. Idea: a just society is one whose basic structure is, or would be, agreed to by the members of the society (in the right kinds of conditions) A just society is one whose basic structure would be agreed to by rational people, interested only in advancing their own interests, from behind the veil of ignorance. The difference principle: social and economic equalities are just only if they benefit the worst- off embers of the society. Question about what kinds of distributions of something- wealth, income, opportunity, whatever- are just, and which are more just than others.
