Constant avoidance - blocks new learning; prevent anxiety. When billy was 5, his neighbor"s dog bit him, he was really scared when this happened. When he went over to another friend"s house and saw their dog, he got scared. He asked his mom if he could go home and now he doesn"t go to any house where there"s a dog. Unconditioned stimulus: dog"s bite/ unconditioned response: fear/pain (it"s unconditioned, because it"s normal to be scared when bitten?) Generalization: talking about a dog, seeing a dog on tv and such. Inherited tendency to fear situations dangerous to humans. (being scared of blood/ being scared of flying - don"t need to be learned/ encounter)
