Scientific study of patterns of change and stability in humans. Development: the pattern of movement or change that begins at conception and continues through the human lifespan. Reflexes: unlearned responses to a specific form of stimulation. Baby turns to thing touching face and mouthing. Baby will hold onto anything put into its hand. Stroking bottom of foot will make toes spread. Have to learn baby"s behaviors to understand their responses. If a baby is startled/falling down they will flail their arms. Skin to skin contact has good benefits for baby. Doing skin to skin contact immediately after birth will reduce stress levels. Studies to see if food preferences are learned through what the mother eats during. Breastfed babies particularly sensitive to mother"s body odors. Bottle fed babies do not show the same sensitivity to their mother"s scent. Babies cannot hear well after birth due to amniotic fluid in their ears. Can see things that are a foot away at most.
