Although freud"s theory had an enormous impact on society during the 20th century, his influence within psychology is waning. Freud"s search for the unconscious and catharsis. He was influenced by the psychiatrist josef breur, who encouraged patients to recall and discuss the details of traumatic early life experiences in order to relieve the physical complaints.
