Document Summary
Brodmann"s 41 and 42 or transverse temporal gyri. Most likely will be referenced as primary auditory cortex or brodmann"s 41 and 42. Information comes in through pitch: sorted through stages in order, retinotopic for eyes, tonotopic for ears. Superior temporal gyrus (top gyrus) mostly audition. Superior temporal sulcus between the superior temporal gyrus and medial temporal gyrus. Medial temporal gyrus (middle gyrus) mostly memory related. Five main types of connections within temporal lobe. Important distinctions between living or not living (is it a threat?) Frontal lobe projection: neurons from the temporal lobe have strong connections with the frontal lobe, all information needs to get sent to frontal lobe at the end. Info processing occurs at temporal lobe: frontal lobe helps you decide what to do with all this information, posterior temporal cortex, projects to the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, anterior temporal cortex, projects to the orbitofrontal cortex. General idea of object perception is you get edges and lines at different orientations.
