Black female-headed households & crime: some have argued that black underclass neighborhoods have higher cr b/c of their higher concentration of single parent households. One parent = less supervision: mother cannot socialize her son properly without the father"s presence. B/c extreme poverty, unattached males and lots of female heads of households all exist in black underclass neighborhoods: as such, each of these 3 conditions can cause high crime rates by themselves. Some researchers have tried to look at the effects of fhoh alone: look at families in underclass neighborhoods only and compare: Crime rates of children raised in two parent households. Crime rates of children raised in single parent households: they find boys raised in single parent households do not have higher crime rates than boys raised in two parent households in underclass neighborhoods.
