ENS 303 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Latissimus Dorsi Muscle, Iliopsoas, Deltoid Muscle
Document Summary
Muscle"s location in relation to the joint axis. Direction of force exerted on a joint by a muscle. If the muscle"s fibers have more than one line of pull, there will be more action. There will be at least one line of action for each line of pull. Contract fully + have much power quick and strong. Length of a muscle relative to its resting length during an isometric contraction will determine the max force it can produce. Resting position = increase in cross-bridge handles. Lengthened or shortened position = fewer handles. Type of motor units activated (ft or st) Speed of a muscle"s contraction will dictate its production. Concentric contraction: slower engagement, greater amount of tension produced. Inverse relationships: as speed increases/decreases, force production decreases/increases. At quick speeds, sarcomere cross-bridges can"t form and reform quickly enough. Force velocity relationship is a direct relationship. Low muscle force = low contraction velocity.
