Decides to just take a little bit of food from more people, starts to provide protection to their villages bc they don"t want their food taken. Spreading until they"re stuck and can"t expand. War makes states and states make war. You have to continue to innovate so that other villages don"t take you over. Protection &domestic security > army & court law. If you want stuff it"s all made by people, & they"re all farming. All transport done by humans/animals (water is easier) Low productivity > few elites/many farmers > control of land/labor. Slow communication >few/small cities/weak markets > control of l&l. Weak markets: artisans only make stuff for elites.
