Document Summary

Norms: rules that regulate your social life, including convention, explicit laws, and implicit standards. Some place doesn"t say thank you to family is rude. Role: a given social position that is governed by set of norms for proper behavior. Professor has responsibility to be on time, answer questions, proper language, certain expectation. Culture: shared rules that govern the behavior of members of community or society, and a set of cages, beliefs and attitudes shared by most members of that society. Experimenter orders the teacher (subject) to give electric shock to student (actor & confederate) when they answer something wrong. In stanley milgram"s famous experiment, everyone agreed to shock. You would give respect: giving respect to those who have authority, when the teacher was paired with other teachers who refused to continue, strength in numbers. Greater good (that momentary discomfort will lead to huge scientific knowledge) Physically and mentally healthy young men agreed to participate for money.
