Constitution a single, fundamental document that is the foundation for a system of laws, government and justice. Every country, state, and city has a constitution. In america, the constitution is the cornerstone of our freedom. Sparta kings(cid:859) power was checked by the ephors. Athens men had the right to vote. Problem: majority rule can become mob rule. And they wanted to combine all three, so they created the republic. Article ii establishes executive branch (president) which enforces the laws. Article i establishes legislative branch (congress) which makes the laws. Article iii establishes judicial branch (courts) which judges the laws. Broken down into articles labelled with roman numerals. The ability to make the law, enforce the law, and judge the law are the 3 essential power of government. Government can have no more and no less power. We diffuse the power through the branches of government with the separation of powers. *the less government does, the freer we are*
