Document Summary

Immunology: the study of the physiological defenses by which the body (the host ) recognizes itself from non-self ( foreign matter : pathogen: any microbe that could cause disease, abnormal self cells: cancer, virally infected cells, old or dead cells. Bacteria are living cells that are prokaryotic and have a cell wall which human cells do not have. That cell wall is important later on and can usually survive and reproduce outside of the host. Some bacteria will thrive inside of a host. Most bacteria can be inhibited or killed by using antibiotics so very few cases of deaths due to bacterial infections today. They are just nucleic acids or dna parts that have a protein coat. They are obligate parasites and usually cannot survive a couple of days outside of host and absolutely need a host in order to reproduce. Hijack host cells and use host cell machinery in order to reproduce and replicate itself.
