Effects characteristics of experiments that allow hypotheses to be tested: direct one goes up, other goes up, indirect one goes up, other goes down. Main effect- experimental diff in means b/w diff levels of any single experimental value. Interaction when two or more of factors actually change each other. Experimental designs involve no less than 4 important desgn elements: ctr over extraneous var. So many things we don"t have ctr over or are interested in: manip of indep var, selection and measurement of dep var, selection & assgn of experimental subj. Xperimental treatment is term referring to way an experimental variable is manipulated.
