No assurance of equivalent groups: differential design, also called ex post facto (after the fact, compares pre existing groups to find a difference on variable of interest. Ex: does divorce affect children"s self esteem: grp. 1 children with parents who are married: grp. 2 children with [parents who are divorced: differential vs. correlational. Both studies measure, but don"t manipulate, variables: correlational studies do not create groups but in instead treat all, posttest only design (see slides in ch. 10 power point) participants as part of a single group: suppose we implement a peer tutoring program for this class, effective immediately.
