Prevalence: the number of active cases (a disease or a condition) in a population during any given period of time: typically expressed as percentages, different types of prevalence estimates include point prevalence, one-year prevalence, and lifetime prevalence. Incidence: the number of new cases in a population over a given period of time: they are typically lower than prevalence figures, because they exclude the already existing cases. Defense mechanisms: used to deal with a conflict but also can create their own problems: repression, reaction formation, projection. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy: the talking cure: free association and dream analysis to unearth the hidden intrapsychic conflicts, long term, 14010, examines transference and countertransference issues, little evidence for efficacy. Humanistic models: abraham maslow (needs hierarchy) & carl rogers (unconditional positive regard, major themes, people are basically good, humans strive toward self-actualization, no one really uses humanistic therapy anymore, but some aspects are incorporated into therapy.
