Systematic differences between groups (other than your ic) Will make the differences between variables larger or smaller. Extraneous variables can take an experiment that really did have a difference but make it look like it has no difference, and vice versa. Can take an experiment that did work and make it look like it didn"t. This is why extraneous variables are worse to have in your experiment. Ex post facto study: groups you"re using that already exist instead of creating them yourself. Many studies have multiple ivs, but it"s worth considering multiple dvs as well.
