More computationally pwrful than a specificity code (i. e. able to code more patts) Provides built-in redundancy (info about given face coded by mult groups: allows for graceful degradation (losing one neuron group does not mean that all info about a face is lost ) The superior colliculus map consists of specific mov"t vectors. Eye mov"t are coded by averaging a population of these vectors. Some of the m ganglion cell axons branch off to the sc then cont to cortex.
