Albumin is a big molecule and keeps fluid inside blood vessels, albumin made by liver: store and release glycogen, synthesizes, breaks down, and stores fatty acids and triglycerides. What is cirrhosis: cirrhosis, not reversible, but you want to stop the progression. Regeneration of cells, structure inside the liver is not good due to scarring, impedes circulation of blood and backs up portal htn. Most common cause of cirrhosis is gall bladder disease: etiology. Right side heart failure and chronic liver congestion. Peripheral neuropathy r/t vitamin deficiencies (thiamine, folic acid, b12) Changes in behavior, impaired thinking, drowsiness, slurred/slowed speech. Unresponsive, obtunded, response to painful stimuli, seizures, no asterixis. Spider angiomas: liver breaks down steroid hormones, spider angiomas develop due to liver unable to breakdown e. g. testosterone and estrogen. Anemia: high blood pressure causes spleen to become enlarged, destruction of red blood cells in the spleen causes portal htn, liver gets rids of old red blood cells.
