Vocal folds behave like strings: determinants of frequency in strings, length, mass (thickness, tension if something is tighter then you will have elongated vocal folds and faster vibrations. Discrete/diffuse tissue enlargement: reduction in tissue- atrophy. Increased muscle activity- hyper function: reduced muscle activating hypo function, muscle dysfunction- myopathy, psychological disorders.
