Fluids begin to move in the cochlea & hair cells in the organ of corti respond to sound. High decibels means you are having trouble hearing. Softest sound heard is the hearing threshold level (htl) When children are being screened in school they aren"t testing threshold. There is a range of vital frequencies for speech. Hearing aid or any other special adaptations not recommended. Unilateral (one ear) / bilateral (both ears) Prelingual (before child"s first word is spoken) / post lingual. Terms used to describe the amount of hearing loss a patient has. Need to remember these ranges for the test. Pathology is localized to the outer and/or the middle ear. Problem with conducting sound to the cochlea. Confirmed by the presence of air bone gaps. Air conduction is > 10 db hl worse than bone conduction. Pathology is localized to the inner ear or central system.
