Rhesus monkeys (harlow and harlow 1962 & 1977) Showed that isolation in young primates is detrimental to socialization in adulthood. Child found to have been extremely isolated which was found to have caused developmental delays. At adulthood was in a mental home. Had nurture, so she was able to develop into a normal child. Prolonged early isolation makes it difficult for a child to be fully socialized. Stages of organic development are related to the stages of socialization. Long intimate training by a significant other is essential to developing a sense of self.
