Grades are categories of quality or performance placed in some meaningful order. Grades can be letters , descriptive words or phrases, or rarely numbers. Scores also show accomplishment, but are always numbers and typically represent a summing of points from a test or assessment. In school, scores are transformed into grades. Grades are more commonly used at the end of a unit, course, quarter, term, semester, or year & represent a broad composite of many assessments and assignments. The grading procedures a teacher uses, especially regarding the labels one uses (ex. A,b,c,d,f) is likely mandated by a school or district or by tradition.
