Document Summary

Dna is a hereditary molecule that is passed from parents to offspring. Dna serves as the instruction manual for an individual. Genome complete set of dna for an organism. A chromosome is a single dna molecule wrapped around proteins called histones. The proteins package the dna so it can fit into the nucleus. One comes from the biological mother and one comes from the biological father. The 23rd chromosome pair determines a person"s sex. All of the dna in the us is about 6 ft long. Dna is composed of nucleotides and are shaped in a spiral double helix shape. Sugar and phosphate make up the backbone of the helix. Each strand of dna held together by base pairing. A pairs with t and c pairs with g. 1953 james watson and francis crick with maurice wilkins. The hydrogen bonds are broken and helix is unwound. Each strand is a template for new dna.
