Halal logo is an authoritative, independent, and reliable testimony to support halal food claims. Halal certification program started in indonesia in 1990s. Program executed by an organization known as lp-pom or the assessment institute for food, drugs and cosmetics. Malaysia and indonesia are the only countries that have a formal program to approve the halal certifying organization. Malaysia, indonesia, singapore and thailand also have designated halal symbols for their retail products. Halal certificates are required for food products exported to islamic countries as well as various non-islamic countries. In addition to food products, some countries also require halal certificates for cosmetic products. To attain a halal logo you must apply. Halal certificate document issued by an islamic organization- certifies a particular product meets the islamic dietary guidelines. Tells it does not contain pork, pork by-products, alcohol or ingredients from dead animals. Tells is was prepared on clean equipment and free from cross- contamination.
